New scholarly information about the period has also been emerging, as Charles T. Gehring,
the director of the New Netherland Project (nnp.org), has been translating 12,000 pages
of Dutch colonial records stored in Albany. A new collection of scholarly essays,
Explorers, Fortunes and Love Letters: A Window on New Netherland, edited by
Martha Dickinson Shattuck, draws on that work and shares the exhibition’s perspective.
