GWC was the logo of the West India Company;
often branded into shipping containers to identify ownership. The
letters stand for: Geoctroyeerde Westindische Compagnie, Chartered
West India Company.
The West India Company, was a trading and colonizing
company, chartered by the States-General of the Dutch republic in
1621 and organized in 1623. Through its agency New Netherland was
founded.
