Why do genealogy?

To find your ancestors
To find where you and your family came from
To find where your family has been
To understand how you and your family are connected to and woven into the past

For more than four decades, the New Netherland Institute (NNI) and the New Netherland Project (now the New Netherland Research Center) have focused on the transcription, translation, and publication of the records of the seventeenth-century colony of New Netherland, North America's only Dutch colony. These records are an indispensable genealogical resource, and researchers can access them on our Online Publications page.

Some may wish to extend their research from New Netherland into the (old) Netherlands. To this end, NNI offers the following pages of resources related to genealogical research in the Netherlands.

Please note that the information on the following pages is offered for informational purposes only and should not be taken as an endorsement of any particular resource or person.

Exhibit created by Ellen Zunon with additional input from E. James Schermerhorn.

NNI is registered as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Contributions are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law. More
