Jared Staal is one of the four Staal brothers, each of whom is a professional ice hockey player of sufficient caliber to play in the premier professional hockey league, the National Hockey League [NHL]. He is the youngest of the four brothers, being six years younger than his older brother, Eric Staal. His other two brothers are Jordan Staal and Marc Staal.
Staal began his professional ice hockey career, in the 2006 to 2007 season, when he was only 16, playing for the Sudbury Wolves in the Ontario Hockey League [OHL], a league which is a prominent league for training future NHL hockey player candidates.. He remained with the Sudbury Wolves for four seasons, from 2006 to 2010. During the four years, he played in 254 games, scored 54 goals, and amassed 148 points.
In 2008, the Phoenix Coyotes of the NHL drafted Staal, as the forty ninth overall pick in the 2008 draft. His two older brothers, Eric Staal and Jordan Staal had both been drafted by the Carolina Hurricanes and Pittsburgh Penguins, as second overall draft picks, in 2003 and 2006 respectively. Jared Staal, the youngest of the four Staal brothers did not have the finesse of his older brothers, and he would play in preparatory teams and farm teams for the next several years.
But in April 25, 2013, after he had been traded to the Carolina Hurricanes, Jared Staal would play in his first NHL game. April is the end of the hockey season, and not many games remain. But he managed to make the team in the fall 2013 opener. How long he would be able to remain on the NHL team of the Hurricanes only the future could tell. But by being on the NHL team he would be playing with his two older brothers, Eric and Jordan. And I imagine he would be closely supervised by not only the coach but also by his two older and more experienced siblings.
Staal’s brothers are Eric Staal, a forward for the Carolina Hurricanes, Marc Staal, a player for the New York Rangers and Jordan Staal, a former player of the Pittsburgh Penguins and currently also with the Carolina Hurricanes organization.
Jared was unable to make the Hurricanes team. He played on a Hurricanes farm team, the Charlotte Checkers, during the 2013-2014 season. His statistics during the year were not impressive.
Jared Staal, of Dutch background, was born on August 1, 1990 in Thunder Bay, Ontario, a city on the north shore of Lake Superior. His parents are Henry and Linda Staal. Although he was born in Canada, since he has been playing on an American team, and has lived in the United States for several years, he has earned the designation as a Dutch American.
Jared Staal is one of the four Staal brothers, each of whom is a professional ice hockey player of sufficient caliber to play in the premier professional hockey league, the NHL. He is the youngest of the four brothers, being six years younger than his older brother, Eric Staal.
This bio profile was prepared in October 2013. Normally an ice hockey player of Jared Staal’s caliber would not be included in the PROMINENT DUTCH AMERICAN listing. But since Jared is one of the four Staal brothers, and has the potential to play in the NHL, he has been added to the collection.
